Homemade Dog Toothpaste – making your dog Kiss-a-bull

dogs teeth need cleaned just like ours do. Bad dental health can cause other health problems. It is not recommended to use human toothpaste on dogs so I found a basic dog toothpaste recipe and tweaked it to make it better! So here it is –

you need – 1 cup of unrefined Virgin coconut oil

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/2 teaspoon kelp

1/8 TBSP dried parsley flakes

2 drops food grade mint extract

How to make – place a cup of coconut oil into a hot water bath to make it soft and pliable, unless it already                   is!

add turmeric, kelp, parsley flakes and mint extract

mix thoroughly and store in fridge between uses

How to use – using either a soft bristled toothbrush or finger brush, rub teeth gently and lightly massage gums. Make sure it is slightly warm before use by placing in a warm water bath. Do not microwave or cook in any way as this will destroy the enzymes and nutrients. You just need it soft enough to use.

For dogs that need intensive dental cleaning brush their teeth daily for a week then switch to every other day. For dogs that just need maintenance brush 2-3 times a week. If your dogs teeth are brown or loose please consult your vet.

This works extremely well in conjunction with fresh breath treats and here is the recipe for them –

What you need – 2 3/4 cups rice flour, 2 TBSP rolled oats, 2 TSP baking powder, 2 cups finely chopped parsley, 2 TBSP finely chopped mint, 1/4 cup grated carrot, 1/4 cup grated low fat mozzarella, 2 TBSP extra virgin oil, 1/2-1 cup water

how to make – Preheat oven to 200C/Gas mark 6

In a large bowl mix flour, oats and baking powder. Add parsley, mint, carrot, cheese and oil

And stir well.

Gradually pour 1/2 cup of water into the bowl and mix until combined. Add more water if

Needed so dough is moist rather than crumbly.

Knead dough on a floured surface for 2-3 minutes, then roll out to 1/4″ thickness. Using a

Cutter or glass cut out the treats, continue rolling and cutting until all the dough is used.

Bake for 20-30 minutes until lightly browned, then cool on a wire rack before serving

store these treats in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks and freeze for up to 4 months, and enjoy getting kisses from your dog with fresh breath x
